Top 12 ReactJS Best Practices and Guidelines

In the field of frontend, when pondering upon one of the well-known and widely adopted languages, ReactJS comes to mind. Being an open-source library developed by Facebook, it has the perks of being reachable to everyone and having a broad community for its following. Unique and Innovative applications such as websites are created with it. It is used for making Interactive UI and Web-based applications both quick and efficient with less code than JS. Keeping in view of the practices and guidelines here we have to name a few which would be able to elaborate it such:

Best Practices for the Structure of React Code

1- Standard Naming Conventions:

  • Pascal cases should be adopted for components such as ‘Update Button’, ‘AdminPanel’ etc.
  • Class member functions/Methods or any functions are adopted using the Camel case such as ‘getUserData’, ‘displayError’ etc.
  • For constant fields such as π capital letters are adopted.

2- Reusability of Repeated Code:

  • Avoid the use of relatedness if duplicate code for different functions is present, create a common component so that you don’t repeat your code.

3- Remove Comments which are Unnecessary

  • Remove the commented code which has no use in the application such that later on you don’t get confused of why it was placed there, as well as try and remove comments which are left as placeholders or are redundant as it would not cause further confusion.

4- Organize files related to the same component in one folder:

  • Files concerning a particular component should be kept in one folder as you should opt for a component-centric approach.
  • Admin Panel components should be kept in a folder called AdminPanel and all its related asset files such as stylesheet and JS should be in that component folder.

5- Test cases of Components:

  • For reducing the possibilities of errors, testing should be done such that the rate of error could be reduced and results would behave just as expected. React has frameworks for testing such as Jest which provides functionality so you can run your tests.

6- Avoid the usage of State whenever necessary or possible:

  • In React by default, you have to try and avoid the usage of State as the more data you have, the more you have to keep track of it.
  • One approach to doing it is by calling it when it is necessary.

7- CSS-in-JS:

  • In larger projects, it is one of the best practices to include CSS in JS, which is an embedded stylesheet in JavaScript. It is used in case of having a large project in which there could be multiple large CSS files and to work on them could result in a mess, so to organize it better. Many of the libraries are on the basis of it.

8- HOC in React (Higher Order Components):

  • Component functionality can be reused with React’s advanced techniques as it can be changed into a high order by the advanced level of the component. HOC is the best practice among developers.

9- Being cautious of URLs:

  • URLs that use JavaScript are dynamic scripts that can validate the URL script injections, so in order for it to work it is made sure that the URLs are linked to http: or https: protocols.

10- Protection from False Authentications:

  • ReactJS should be used as the first block in authentication as the application may run into problems after the user provides his information and could result in a crash.

11- Protection for DDoS:

  • Hidden IPs with the Application Management state have redundancies that could lead to security. It could limit the communication service.

12- Further Better Practices:

  • Appropriate Naming.
  • Avoid the use of Unnecessary Div.
  • Managing Props properly with Components.
  • Usage of Map Function.

Conclusion:

React is a powerful tool that is used to create such amazing applications, through finding and adopting these practices, you would find yourself grasping a better approach and being more ethical and professional towards your code. On a large scale, it is a complicated task that requires decisions from developers. Adopting these practices could lead to ease of the decision in making a refined version of the application.
